| KTM X-Bow "Stratosferica" by Montenergy Posted: 25 Aug 2011 09:00 AM PDT Unless you’re Michael Stoschek and have a Ferrari F430 Scuderia turned Lancia Stratos to play in, chances are you won’t be able to ride in a brand new Lancia Stratos for anything short of an arm and leg. But all that’s about to change thanks to the people over at Montenergy. The Italian tuning firm has come up with a body kit for the KTM X-Bow called the "Stratosferica." The name alone illustrates the tuning firm’s ultimate goal; to make a Stratos from the more affordable street-homologated sports car. This transformation was achieved by putting a top on the once top-less track car and giving it the look, depending on how trained your eyes are to detail, of a Lancia Stratos. On top of the body kit, Montenergy is also offering a performance boost for the X-Bow, one that takes the output of its Audi-sourced 2.0-liter TFSI four-cylinder engine from the standard 237 horsepower to 310 ponies. For information’s sake, that’s more powerful than the most powerful X-Bow - the 300-horsepower X-Bow R - in the market. The whole enchilada of modifications will set you back €12,000, which is about $17,000 based on current exchange rates. Add that to the base price of $88,500 for the KTM X-Bow and the whole shebang will set you back about $105,500. Considering that, as of right now, that’s one of the only options for a brand new "Stratos-like" vehicle, the price isn’t all that steep. Even if rumors are true and a limited run of Stoschek’s new Lancia Stratos are produced - not likely, but stranger things have happened - it would cost around $545,000. That makes this tuning package for the KTM X-Bow that much better. | Posted: 25 Aug 2011 08:00 AM PDT A few months ago, Aston Martin introduced the V12 Zagato Concept to the world, a supercar that was born from the creative minds of Aston Martin and Italian coachbuilder, Zagato. The overwhelming popularity of the concept prompted the folks over at Aston to expedite the release of the production car and lo and behold, we’re a few weeks away from seeing the road-ready version of the supercar at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. Official details behind the production version have yet to be released, but we don’t expect it to be any different from the concept, including the 6.0-liter V12 engine mated to a six-speed automated manual transmission and the output of 510 horsepower and 420 lb/ft of torque. What we do know is that Aston Martin has revealed the price for the limited-run supercar and it’s going to take you back £330,000, which is about $538,300 based on current exchange rates. Only 150 models will be built so if you’re in the market for one, better start saving up and preparing for a speedy reservation. The production version of the V12 Zagato will be one of the highlights of Aston Martin’s booth at Frankfurt, where it will be joined by the pair of V12 Zagato race car variants that participated at the 24 Hours of Nurburgring - ’Zig’ and ’Zag’ - as well as the One-77 supercar and the newly released Virage and Vantage S. | Lexus releases teasers for the GS-F and GS450h Posted: 25 Aug 2011 07:00 AM PDT Lexus has been rolling out their new fleet of vehicles over the past couple of weeks, highlighted by the presentation of the 2013 GS 350 at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. You would think that after what’s been a busy two weeks, Toyota’s premium brand would be slowing down a bit to catch their breaths. Apparently not. The Japanese automaker is now gearing up for the world debuts of two new vehicles, the GS F-Sport and GS 450h. No word yet as to what these cars will bring when the covers are pulled off, but all indications are that the GS 450h will be making its world presentation at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month. Among other things, the GS 450h will carry a hybrid powertrain that features a V6 engine combined with an electric motor. Meanwhile, the GS F-Sport will carry plenty of aerodynamic accessories, not the least of which include a redesigned front bumper and judging from the teaser photo, a honeycomb grille and a new set of alloy wheels to go with a new suspension set-up. Though it’s possible that we’re going to see the GS F-Sport alongside the GS450h in Frankfurt, don’t be surprised if Lexus keeps the former under the covers for now with an eye towards the 2011 SEMA show in Las Vegas. At the rate they’re going, it’s probably best for these guys to bring one up at a time. SEMA’s scheduled for November anyway and after the month they’ve had and the busy September coming up, these guys have every right in the world to keep the GS F-Sport behind the curtains until then. | Posted: 01 Jul 2011 11:00 AM PDT This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about a replacement for the Ferrari 599 Fiorano, but this is the first time we can offer more details about the new sports car. For starters, expect it to make its official at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show in March with sales beginning later in the year. The 599 replacement will be built on an all-new chassis and will borrow design elements from both the 2012 Ferrari FF and the Ferrari California. The model will get modified bumpers and new headlamps, a modified bonnet, and a new exhaust system with tips that sit higher than on the current 599. Fans of true sportscars can also breathe easier knowing that the replacement 599 will not be a hybrid model. It will instead be powered by a direct injected 6.3-liter V-12 - the same as in the the FF - with a total output of 700 HP. The engine will be combined with a rear-wheel drive system and the Ferrari’s latest seven-speed dual clutch gearbox. | Ford 'RS3' Mustang by Roush Performance Posted: 25 Aug 2011 06:00 AM PDT The Ford Mustang and tuning company Roush Performance have long been synonymous with each other because of the latter's undying devotion to giving some good aftermarket lovin' to the iconic Ford muscle car. Over the years, we've seen a number of Roush-tuned Ford Mustangs, including the P-51B, the Barrett-Jackson Edition, and the 5XR. All these works are mighty impressive, especially for the lofty standards the Mustang is held to in the tuning world. With all the Mustang experience under its belt, it shouldn't come as a surprise to find out that Roush Performance has just revealed their new project, the 2012 RS3 Mustang. The 2012 Stage 3 Mustang, aka RS3, is powered by a 5.0L 4-valve DOHC TiVCT engine equipped with a R2300 ROUSH supercharger that increases the total output to a total of 540HP. Next to it the package also includes a pretty impressive list of paint and graphics and changes made to both interior and the exterior. UPDATE 08/24/11: Roush Performance has been granted approval by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the California Air Resources Board (CARB) to sell the ROUSHcharged 2012 Roush Stage 3 Mustangs in all 50 states here in the US. | Rotary Supercars preparing their own Bugatti Veyron slayer Posted: 25 Aug 2011 05:00 AM PDT Bugatti CEO, Wolfgang Durheimer, is spending far too much time worrying about Koenigsegg and SSC and their attempts in breaking the Veyron Super Sport’s top speed record. What he should be doing is not overlooking other automakers that could swoop in and snatch the precious title away from his company because there are others that are more than capable of doing that, particularly Rotary Supercars. We’ve already heard from these guys a few months ago with the RSC Predator GT. This car comes with a Mazda 138 MSP-based four-rotor Wankel engine that produces a nauseating output of 1,184 horsepower. Despite it’s otherworldly power, the Predator GT is not the car that RSC is turning into its personal Veyron slayer. Another model - a still unnamed model - is being developed to carry an eight-rotor rotary engine that produces an absolutely criminal 2,801 horsepower and 2,580 lb/ft of torque. Those numbers will supposedly allow the car to hit 0-62 mph in less than one second - absolutely insane - with a top speed that hits 280 mph. No further details were revealed of this mystery supercar, but RSC has quietly made plans to introduce their maniac machine at the 2012 Top Marques Monaco. Best be warned, Bugatti. | McLaren sheds more light on two future supercar models Posted: 25 Aug 2011 04:00 AM PDT  With only two cars under its belt, McLaren’s appeal is only tied up to the fortunate few that can actually afford their models. They’re not like Porsche, Audi, or even Ferrari, three brands that have both the inventory and the history to be considered as three of the premier automakers of the world. But to their credit, McLaren seems to be making a push to be included in that group ever since they announced their intentions of quickly following up the release of the MP4-12C with two other models in the near future. Codenamed the ’P12’ and the ’P13’ - the MP4-12C was ’P11’ - these two supercars are expected to join their newly-released brethren as part of McLaren’s expanding supercar profile. While the MP4-12C sits in the middle of the totem pole, the ’P12’ will be designated as the top-of-the-line model and the eventual successor of the brand’s original model, the F1. According to Motor Trend, the P12 will carry a powertrain delivering an output in the neighborhood of at least 800 horsepower, making it a likely rival to the Lamborghini Aventador. As for the ’P13’, this "baby McLaren" will sit just below the MP4-12C, making it the most affordable - a loose definition of affordable if there ever was one - model of the McLaren line-up with possible rivals including the Audi R8 V10 and the Porsche 911 Turbo. Both models will carry the same underpinnings as that of the MP4-12C while also carrying the same mid-engine layout. The future models will also be sprouting different variants, similar to what they’re doing with the current MP4-12C. Of these, the most likely variations would include a cabriolet and a GT3 version. McLaren hasn’t announced a specific timeline for the two models, but the word is that the top-end P12 will be unveiled in 2013 while the entry-level P13 will follow suit in 2014. | Posted: 25 Aug 2011 03:00 AM PDT The year 2011 marked a new time for the Jeep Wrangler after Chrysler introduced a facelifted version of the off-road vehicle. A year later, the 2012 model has been released and while it looks pretty much the same as that of the 2011 model, Jeep is introducing a new powertrain that is significantly more powerful than the last model. With the new engine, the 2012 Jeep Wrangler now produces an output of 285 horsepower and 260 lb/ft of torque, an improvement of 83 horsepower and 23 lb/ft of torque from the 2011 model, while also carrying an improved fuel efficiency rating of 21 mph. This comes as an improvement from the 15 mpg city / 19 mpg highway rating of the facelifted 2011 version. "Our new 3.6-liter V6 engine gives the ever-capable Wrangler a completely new, more refined on-road driving experience – complete with more fuel efficiency, power and torque," said Mike Manley, President and CEO of the Jeep brand. | Posted: 25 Aug 2011 02:00 AM PDT This vehicle’s been around but we couldn’t believe that it fell through the cracks without much of a notice from us. But hey, better late than never, right? This is the Tiger Aviator, an advanced, road and track racer straight from the world of the Caterham 7 and the Irmscher i-SELECTRA. These three models may look the same, but there are plenty of differences that come with the Aviator, most specifically its cheap price compared to its contemporaries. Sure, it might not be as powerful - or has an electric powertrain like the i-SELECTRA - as its contemporaries, but it does offer plenty of qualities that should make the purchase, if you intend to buy one that is, well worth the money. And hey, if for nothing else, the car looks the part of a retro roadster that offers plenty of bite to go with all the options it comes in based on customer preference.
